Complex Systems Analysis: Advancing Health Systems Policy Design and Planning

From September 24 to September 28, 2012, the Division of Mathematical Modeling hosted a conference entitled “Complex Systems Analysis: Advancing Health Systems Policy Design and Planning” at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Centre in Bellagio, Italy.  The meeting brought together a group of internationally renowned scientists, health policy makers, and health care providers from high, middle, and low income countries to discuss increased incorporation of complex systems analysis into health care policy and provision.

The conference culminated in the creation of seven statements intended to guide the bridging process required to integrate complexity sciences into health systems research.  These statements support the guiding principles, values, and goals outlined in the World Health Organization’s “Strategy on Research for Health”, and the Pan-American Health Organization’s “Policy on Research for Health”.
